About

Michelle DeVita

I prefer to work in the field as opposed to a studio. Some photographers love directing the whole shot, whereas I have a more candid style. It also provides a different challenge of having to work around elements you have no control over, lighting, background, even most of the time the subject, and quickly as the moment is brief.

Themed events like the Renaissance Faire provide interesting settings and intricate costuming, and always looking for various events to capture with my lens.  And yes, a lot of my albums are at Pride Celebrations.

Lately, I have been volunteering to cover various events for Non-Profits in the Inland Empire area of California and surrounding areas.  It’s empowering to be able to assist a cause. Most recently I have covered the Go Red for Women’s event in Riverside through the Rancho Cucamonga Photography Club, and was the sole photographer for the Gender Odyssey’s conference in LA.

Film vs Digital

I remember the buzz in the college darkroom when the news of the Nikon D1 was about to be released, and question was would digital replace film.  I’ll admit I was one of the people that was skeptical it would happen as quick as it did, then again at the time I primarily shot with medium format cameras, and they are only just now coming out medium format digital cameras nearly 20 years later.

Although I have moved with the times and shoot digital, for fun I will still go out to burn a roll of film, and slowly refurbishing my father’s old SpeedGraphic. If you are a photographer and have not worked with film, I strongly recommend to play around with it.  There are many valuable disciplines it teaches in having a limited number of shots and really looking at your shot before you click the shutter to make sure you got it, because you won’t see it again until after shoot
